What is significant about the notion of underdeveloped nations is that one of the very factors that will lead to a nation being classified as underdeveloped is the identification of a lack of development in health care. Paul Farmer vividly describes this connection as follows: “Wealthy citizens of “underdeveloped” nations (those countries that have not yet experienced their health transition) do not die young from infectious diseases.” Thus, Farmer notes the key connection between poverty that characterizes underdeveloped nations and primary healthcare. It as this point of convergence between denotations of health care and denotations of underdeveloped countries, wherein the analysis of primary health care is to be utilized to develop and identify the possible amelioration of “health” in general vis-à-vis people from underdeveloped countries. In essence, this analysis contributes to the very problem of how an underedeveloped country may become a developed country.
