As it is clear from the above figure that there are four different areas in the UK clothing market that are leading towards competitive advantage. However the competitive advantage that Next PLC enjoys could best be explained through the focused low cost, and focused differentiation. This is due to the fact that the clothing industry in the country is going through the maturity stage where there are hundreds of organizations competing in the market and there exist some large retailers including M&S who is dominating the industry due to its large size and R&D capabilities. As the scope of Next is comparatively low, Next PLC is consistently striving to accomplish focused low cost advantage through consistent expansion of its market that has enabled the organization to have focused low cost advantage (Wood, 2012). In addition, the exceptional designing of the Next PLC clothing and shoes segment has been enabling the firm to enjoy the focused differentiation. Due to this reason, although the organization does not have the full-pledge cost or differentiation advantage, the fact is that the firm has a focused cost strategy and focused differentiation advantage and this has enabled the firm to accomplish the different targets that the firm has for the niche that the firm has been targeting (Next, 2011).
